Thermoplastic Composite Pipe (TCP/RTP) End-fittings & Pipe Connection

Thermoplastic composite pipe (TCP) as the lightweight, flexible composite pipe, which is the next generation of composite pipes benefits oil, gas and water supply industry. The unique continuous production process that enable to produce solid wall pipe with fully bonded fiberglass tape, and carbon fiber as the reinforcement lamination.


Current TCP/RTP line is able to produced DN 50 – DN 160, DN200 – DN 315 , DN 400 – DN 630 under Banline TCP- Ultra™ and TCP -Wave line from Banline TCP/RTP machinery. This article briefly discuss the design of fiberglass TCP connection/ end fitting.


A. Outer sleeve type loose flange fitting

Outer sleeve type loose flange fitting consists of lock set, flange plate. Fitting surface is zinc-coated which is good for corrosion resistant and has good appearance. Rubber or metal pad is placed between the fittings, flange bolt connection is adopted. To install the fittings only needs the wrench, it is easy installation.


- Fitting Size: Φ50-Φ315

- Pressure Ranking:

Φ50—Φ200 suitable for PN2.5Mpa and lower pressure.

Φ225—Φ315 suitable for PN2.0Mpa and lower pressure.

- Inner core part could be added in this type of fitting, which could increase the binding force between pipe and fitting. Pressure ranking is also increased.


B. Inner core type movable sleeve flange pipe fitting



Inner core type movable sleeve flange pipe fitting consists of inner core type retaining ring sleeve, outside lock set, flange plate. Fitting surface is zinc-coated which is good for corrosion resistant and has good appearance. Rubber or metal pad is placed between the fittings, flange bolt connection is adopted. To install the fittings only needs the wrench, it is easy installation.


- Fitting Size: Φ50-Φ315

- Pressure Ranking: Pipe end surface doesn't contact to transportation fluid, no need to do any pipe end sealing treatment.


Φ50-Φ200 suitable for PN3.5Mpa and lower pressure.

Φ225-Φ315 suitable for PN2.5Mpa and lower pressure.


C. Outer sleeve type fixed flange fitting

Outer sleeve lock set is welded to flange together. Fitting surface is zinc-coated which is good for corrosion resistant and has good appearance. This structure could increase fitting crimping force, fitting crimping length and fitting deformation. Rubber or metal pad is placed between the fittings, flange bolt connection is adopted. To install the fittings only needs the wrench, it is easy installation.


- Fitting Size: Φ50-Φ315

- Pressure Ranking:

Φ50一Φ200 suitable for PN2.5Mpa and lower pressure.

Φ225一 Φ315 suitable for PN2.0Mpa and lower pressure.


Inner core part could be added in this type of fitting, which could increase the binding force between pipe and fitting. Pressure ranking is also increased.


D. Outer sleeve type flange looper flange fitting

Outer sleeve type flange looper flange fitting consists of lock set with retainer and flange. Fitting surface is zinc-coated which is good for corrosion resistant and has good appearance. This structure could increase fitting crimping force, fitting crimping length and fitting deformation. Rubber or metal pad is placed between the fittings, flange bolt connection is adopted. To install the fittings only needs the wrench, it is easy installation.


- Fitting Size: Φ50- Φ315

- Pressure Ranking:

Φ50 - Φ200 suitable for PN6.0Mpa and lower pressure.

Φ225 - Φ315 suitable for PN3.5Mpa and lower pressure.


After fitting is crimped, pipe end should be flanged, pipe reinforcement layer and fitting doesn't contact to transportation fluid. This joint is very good for corrosion resistant and could be used to transport corrosive liquids like acid, alkali and halogen etc.


E. Oil use inner core type screw thread/flange fitting

Inner core type screw thread fitting consists of external thread inner core, inner thread inner core, outside lock set. Inner core type flange fitting consists of inner core with flange, outside lock set. Fitting surface is zinc-coated which is good for corrosion resistant and good appearance. To install the fittings only needs the wrench, it is easy installation.


- Fitting size: Dn50(2") Dn74(3") Dn101(4")、Dn127(5") Dn15216")、Dn250(8")

- Pressure Ranking: Pipe end surface doesn't contact to transportation fluid, no need to do any pipe end sealing treatment. Suitable for PN15.0Mpa and lower pressure.

F. Electrothermal Joining



Electrothermal joining solution is similar with HDPE, MDPE pipe joining. TCP/RTP incert into the electrofusion fitting, and then supply a voltage, then built in heater coils melt the inside fitting and outer pipe wall, weld together with strong homogeneous joint.



The pipes to be joined are cleaned, inserted into the electrofusion fitting (with a temporary clamp if required) and a voltage is applied for a fixed time depending on the fitting in use. The built in heater coils then melt the inside of the fitting and the outside of the pipe wall, which weld together producing a very strong homogeneous joint. The assembly is then left to cool for a specified time.
