All You need to know about thermoplastic composite pipe(TCP) Advantages

The uniqueness and benefits of thermoplastic composite pipe (TCP) makes on oil gas operation and subsea infrastructure, It also benefit water transportation field to replace steel reinforced, and other related composite pipe for more economic and environmental purpose.

However, since TCP is different from steel reinforced composite pipe and flexible composite pipe, In previous article, we have distinguished the different between thermoplastic composite pipe (TCP) and reinforced thermoplastic composite pipe (RTP). In this series article, we highlight and give brief experience sharing about raw material savings between TCP pipe and other type of RTP or PE pipes.

High pressure resistance: The maximum pressure resistance of the TCP system is up to 60 MPa, more than 40 times of plastic pipes.

High-temperature resistance: The maximum operating temperature of the system is 130℃, by using PERT-1 or PERT-2 for inner layer, which is more than 60℃ higher than general plastic pipes.

Long lifetime: 6 times of metal pipes, 2 times of plastic pipes.

Corrosion resistance: Non-corrosive and environmental.

Wall thickness: The wall thickness is 1/4 of plastic pipes, improving 30% flow rate.

Lightweight: 40% lighter than plastic pipes, 30% lighter than steel wire reinforced composite pipe.

Strong joints: Double-layer glass fiber superposition in joints, hot-melt socket, never leak.

Low cost: 40% lower than plastic pipes.

The following table will provide some thoughts of TCP raw material savings. The calculation is based on Chinese market price, the prices may variable based on market and region. Let us use :

Fiberglass tape history price in China – 25,000 RMB/ton ( 3524.25 USD/ton)

PE price – 7500 RMB/ ton (1057.27 USD/ton)

Exchange rate 1: 7.09 RMB/USD







The following table and chart Banline TCP Pipe burst pressure test. The sample dimension is :


- Diameter : DN 110

- Working Pressure : 1.6 Mpa

- Overall Thickness : 0.7 mm






The result shows burst pressure is 7.89 Mpa, 4.93 times than working pressure ( 1.6Mpa ).
